Casa Gaia is primarily used as a vacation home, but the property operates as an Arabian horse stud and a small farm. Casa Gaia has a children’s playground with swings and slides, and a small forest of 200 year-old trees with little intertwining paths.
The farm has two ponies (these can be used by children), a Jersey cow and her calf for fresh milk, free-range eggs from the chickens that graze naturally around the property, as well as an organic vegetable garden.
For groceries, there are two small supermarkets in town, and larger chains available in Punta del Este (1/2 hour away) that deliver to your doorstep. José Ignacio also has a pharmacy and a gas station.
Included in the rental price are the services of our property manager who takes care of the animals and the park. He also makes wonderful Uruguayan “asados” (barbecues) and can run errands. His wife takes care of cleaning, helping out in the house, and babysitting if needed. They live in a separate little house within the property.
José Ignacio is known for its long stretches of white sandy beaches where the international “Who’s Who” get together to enjoy the sun, polo matches, parties and excellent restaurants.
There are plenty of sports activities in the area, such as surfing, kite surfing, & windsurfing. “Lau” will set you up with all the gear, or with classes. There is a waterskiing facility only a couple of kilometers north, and fishing and boat rides leave directly from the José Ignacio beach. Tennis club and golf course are nearby.
Haras Godiva, only 3 kilometers away (approx. 1½ miles), organizes unforgettable horseback rides to the beach, and night rides when the moon is full.
