Casa Gaia

This spectacular house situated in the ocean resort of José Ignacio, Uruguay, is the perfect marriage between sea and farm. Casa Gaia offers complete privacy, as it is situated on its own natural paradise of 11 hectares (27 acres) right on Lake José Ignacio. The uniqueness of this property comes not only from its privileged geographic setting, which offers the best views of the area’s natural beauty, but also from its remarkable construction.

The house was built using the concept of “Bau-Biologie”, an architectural movement, which applies modern techniques to traditional methods of construction using adobe, wood, and living grass roofs. The result is a cozy and harmonious environment where temperature and humidity levels are ideal. No materials or chemicals that could be harmful to your health were used in the construction. The pool is cleaned using a natural saline system.

Casa Gaia is a 4 bedroom, 4½ bathroom house, with over 300 m2 (3,200 sq ft) of construction, offering unobstructed views of the lake and sunsets. Each bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom. Sleeping up to eleven people, the house has two interior dining rooms that seat 8 guests; two exterior dining rooms that seat 14 guests; two living rooms; a long wooden deck for lounging by the pool; and a barbecue area. Even though it is a sustainable construction partially powered by solar panels, Casa Gaia has all the commodities of a modern house – fully equipped kitchen, washer dryer, electric stove, ceiling fans, wireless internet, a TV and a projector for watching movies.
